Most Famous Philodendron

Most famous philodendron. If you love gardening, you must be familiar with Philodendrons. Yep! These plants from the genus of the same name are popular houseplants since the Victorian era. Are you surprised? Don’t be. Because with its beauty and enchanting looks, the love received by Philodendrons is so deserving. When Queen Victoria reigned the throne, potted Philodendrons were a must-have for any well-equipped house in the UK and they continued to dominate the world of indoor plants well until the 1970s.

Now, when there are many other houseplant options for our garden, Philodendrons are still lovely picks that are difficult to ignore. This is because Philodendrons come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and colors—we have a lot to choose from! Moreover, they are quite easy to care for so there isn’t a reason not to fall for them, right?

Although we have a quite wide range of options to choose from—from Philodendrons, the followings are the five most famous Philodendrons around the world (check, if you have these plants in your garden already!)

Philodendron Hederaceum

The hederaceum is among the five most famous Philodendrons. Having glossy heart-shaped leaves, this type of Philodendron is also known as the heartleaf or sweetheart. This plant can trail or climb up to four feet. By its easy going characteristic, a green thumb is not necessarily needed to make this plant thrive—placing it as one of the most amazing houseplant gifts for amateur gardeners.

If your hederaceum becomes leggy, it is advisable to pinch its stem (use your fingers or scissors—sharpened and cleaned) near a node to encourage new growth and help it to become bushy.

Philodendron Erubescens

Also known as the Pink Princess—this type of Philodendron has beautiful and exotic-looking leaves. It is variegated with black or dark green with pink. The pink leaf sections are lacking in chlorophyll and it is really important to keep a balance between the colors with exposure to indirect light only.

This Philodendron is native to the rainforest of South America. There, the pink leaf sections of this plant also have red highlights and undercovers. If you want your garden looks flashier and fancier, adding this type of Philodendron would help to make your dream comes true!

Philodendron Bipinnatifidium

If it is difficult for you to say its name, you can also call this type of Philodendron a hope plant. This hope plant is a non-climbing tropical plant grown as a floor plant in temperate climates. It has dramatic leaves with deep lobes. The leaves turn to face the light, so it is better for you to rotate this plant regularly and keep it away from direct sunlight in order to keep its foliage balanced and its position correct.

Philodendron Brasil

This type of Philodendron is a fast-growing vine. It is a cultivar of the hederaceum variety—thus it also has green heart-shaped leaves which are variegated with a white, cream or lime-colored strip down the middle of the leaf.

This Philodendron plant is included in the five most famous Philodendrons, because it is also quite easy to care for. This plant does its best in bright or medium light but it can survive low light (it is not advisable though!).

Philodendron Rugosum

Having thick heart-shaped leaves with rough textures that are patterned (each leaf may have a different pattern) has made this Philodendron to be known as Pigskin. Although it is one of the five most famous Philodendrons around the world, this is a rare and exotic member of the species.

If you want this native to Ecuador Philodendron to be in your garden, don’t get your hopes up. It is very difficult to obtain because today this type of Philodendron is at risk in the wild due to the loss of habitat.
