What Is A Spathiphyllum?

The beautiful and elegant Spathiphyllum is a low-maintenance plant with beautiful glossy green leaves. It is considered as a popular indoor plant because it is a great option for beginners as it only needs simple care. If you are new in the plant world, this article will inform you all you need about the Spathiphyllum.

So, what is a Spathiphyllum? Spathiphyllum, also known as the Peace Lily Plant, is a genus of about 40 species of flowering plants and is categorized as a herbaceous perennial. Peace lilies will bloom twice a year, producing one or two white hooded blooms in spring and occasionally flower again in autumn. These plants can reach a height of 6 feet in a natural setting, but in an indoor setting, it is more likely to reach 3 feet. Its deep-green glossy leaves and white blossoms, which are intermittent in medium lighting and long-lasting, make it a favorite specimen in interior groupings.

It is clear that having a peace lily is no mistake, especially if you have just decided to start diving into the plant world. With that being said, you still need to keep in mind some common problems with peace lilies. A typical concern is browning leaf tips, which can be caused by overwatering, overfeeding, or a lack of humidity. Change one condition at a time to see how your plant reacts. Yellowing leaves indicate that the plant is receiving too much sunshine and should be moved away from it. Most pests and diseases don't bother peace lilies, and wiping the leaves regularly will get rid of the occasional aphid or other pests.

Another important fact about peace lilies is that they contain toxins that may harm your pets, especially cats and dogs. All parts of the plant, starting from the stems to the leaves and even the attractive blooms contain an irritating toxin that can be dangerous to a man’s best friend, so it is best to place the plant in a place that is unreachable for your pets.

Lastly, being rainforest plants, peace lilies like a warm, humid and semi-shaded environment. It is better to place your peace lily out of direct sunlight and stand the pot on a water-filled saucer of pebbles to increase the humidity level around the plant. Ideally, you should water them frequently enough to keep them from wilting, but if you forget, don't fret; peace lilies recover quickly. From spring through autumn, feed once a month with a balanced liquid houseplant feed and dust the leaves with a damp cloth.

We hope you have a great experience with your peace lily!
