Shipping Plants to the USA from Indonesia

Shipping live tropical plants from Indonesia to the United States can be simple when you choose the option that fits how you want to import.

Okanoka offers two ways to ship plants to U.S. customers: Regular International Shipping and USA Group Shipping. We prepare plants for export in Indonesia, coordinate plant quarantine inspection and phytosanitary documentation, pack plants bare-root in sphagnum moss, and arrange international shipment.

Based on recorded Okanoka shipments from 2023–2026, we have completed 700+ U.S. shipments and reached 44 U.S. states plus Washington, DC and Puerto Rico. You can see more of our shipping history on our Where We’ve Shipped page.

Want the simpler option?

USA Group Shipping is designed for buyers who do not want to arrange their own personal import permit and U.S. forwarding process.

Current rate: $15 per plant. The shipping amount you already paid on Okanoka.com is credited toward the group-shipping charge. The group-shipping rate also includes the import tax handled as part of the group shipment.

U.S. domestic delivery: 1–6 plants: +$20 per package. 7+ plants: free domestic delivery.

USA Group Shipping

USA Group Shipping consolidates multiple customer orders into one international shipment. Okanoka coordinates the import process for the group shipment, and after the required U.S. inspection and release, each order is forwarded to the customer’s final address.

With this option, you do not need to provide your own personal import permit. Group Shipping is available on scheduled consolidation dates rather than as an on-demand weekly service.

How the Group Shipping Charge Works

If you already paid shipping when checking out on Okanoka.com, that amount is not charged twice. We credit the website shipping amount toward your USA Group Shipping rate.

Example: 5 plants

5 plants × $15 = $75
Shipping already paid at checkout = $52 credit
Remaining group-shipping amount = $23
U.S. domestic delivery for 1–6 plants = $20

Additional payment after checkout: $43

In this example, you do not pay another $75. The $52 already paid on the website is applied to the group-shipping calculation.

USA Group Shipping Rates

  • $15 per plant
  • 1–6 plants: +$20 per package for U.S. domestic delivery
  • 7+ plants: free U.S. domestic delivery
  • Import tax handled through the group shipment is included
  • No personal import permit required from the customer

How to Join a Group Shipment

  1. Choose your plants and place your order on Okanoka.com.
  2. Tell Okanoka that you want to join the next USA Group Shipping cycle.
  3. We calculate the group-shipping amount and credit the shipping you already paid at checkout.
  4. If an additional balance is due, we confirm it with you before the group shipment is prepared.
  5. Your plants are prepared, inspected, documented, packed, and included in the scheduled consolidated shipment.
  6. After the required U.S. import process is completed, your order is forwarded domestically to your address.

Plants Purchased from Other Indonesian Sellers

USA Group Shipping can also be used for eligible plants purchased from other Indonesian sellers. Please contact Okanoka before arranging delivery from another seller so we can confirm the procedure, timing, and whether the plants can be included in the scheduled group shipment.

Regular International Shipping to the USA

Regular International Shipping is better suited to buyers who already understand the U.S. plant-import process and prefer to manage their shipment individually.

Okanoka handles the export side in Indonesia, including plant preparation, Indonesian plant quarantine inspection, phytosanitary documentation, bare-root packing, and international dispatch.

On the U.S. side, the buyer may need to provide the appropriate import documentation, such as a USDA import permit (including PPQ 587 when applicable), required shipping labels, and a domestic forwarding label depending on the shipment and current requirements.

The international shipment is routed to the designated USDA Plant Inspection Station for the required inspection. We do not list or promise a specific inspection location because routing is arranged according to the shipment and import documentation.

What Happens During U.S. Plant Inspection?

Live plant shipments entering the United States may be inspected before they continue to the final delivery address. The relevant authority may review the plants, phytosanitary documentation, packaging, and other shipment details to determine whether the shipment meets U.S. entry requirements.

Government inspection decisions are outside Okanoka’s control. If an issue is identified, the authority may require additional action before the shipment can continue.

How We Prepare Plants for Shipping

Plants are prepared for international transit and shipped bare-root in sphagnum moss. They are not shipped in their original growing soil. Okanoka coordinates the required Indonesian quarantine inspection and phytosanitary documentation before export.

For a full overview of our export and packing process, see How Shipping Works.

How Long Does It Take?

International plant orders require preparation before dispatch. Export documentation, plant quarantine inspection, phytosanitary processing, packing, and shipment scheduling all take place before the package leaves Indonesia.

Regular International Shipping and USA Group Shipping follow different timelines. Group shipments wait for a scheduled consolidation date, while regular shipments are prepared according to the individual order and document requirements. Customs, USDA inspection, courier operations, weather, and holidays can also affect delivery time, so exact arrival dates cannot be guaranteed.
